Our client is a leading provider of security & access control technology solutions for self storage industry; including keypads, door alarms, locks, and security gate solutions.
Our team was engaged to redefine and re-launch a renter's ability to interact with their storage unit(s) via their mobile devices. In addition, we were asked to improve and simplified the experience for storage site managers and owners to setup and manage the access to their sites.
I was the only designer on this project and responsible for User Experience Design (requirements, architecture, facilitated concept design workshops, design reviews, wireframes, and annotations) and User Interface Design (visual design, screen comps, UI elements, icons, and assets).
Through user research and onsite visits with site managers and renters; we developed a strong understanding of where the current solution was and was not meeting users' needs. The team was able to gain new insights and develop new use cases such as multi-facility and multi-unit renter support, multi-user administration and personalized access control. This included uncovering a previous overlooked low hanging fruit item consisting of the renter's desire to quickly view their unit's access code.
The new mobile renter experience provides a personalized path to a rental unit by surfacing 1-click access controls to gates, elevators and door utilizing the renter's current location and their unit's location. Renters are able to manage access to their unit, view access history and get notified when an alarms is triggered or there is access activity at their unit.
The new cloud-based administration tool provides a simplified experience for owners and their managers to onboard and manage access to a site. In addition, the new centralized solution provides our client, site owner and managers valuable insights into user data and activity.
Our client was able to sell the new solution and quickly onboard one of the largest US moving equipment and storage rental companies.
